Bavaria 42 4-cabin versions are high-volume cruising yachts and are considered to be one of the best sail cruisers for large families or groups. A bow thruster is fitted to assist with harbour manoeuvres.

In addition to being engineered to handle a variety of conditions, she sails fast and safely in total comfort. With 3 slab reefs pre-set in the mainsail, with all its lines led aft to the cockpit, deck activity on Clipperton is minimised while sailing in strong winds. A powerful furling genoa makes the most of light airs when required. A spinnaker pole is available to pole out the genoa if desired. A dedicated iPad (with an updated Navionics+ chart of all UK waters, AIS and wifi connectivity), together with a standalone traditional radar ensures that all navigational needs are available at the chart table. Furthermore, an independent Axiom 2 chartplotter (Navionics+) is at the helm to aid pilotage when required. An electric autopilot is fitted for use when motoring.
Although she is not difficult to manoeuvre, with a fin keel and sail drive, handling Clipperton in confined spaces is enhanced by a recently installed bow thruster. A 20 kg Delta anchor together with 50 metres of chain, through a windlass, is available when desired.
Tender operations are designed with a large crew in mind. The dinghy is capable of delivering 9 crew ashore in only 2 runs, powered by a 6 HP outboard engine, which is lowered/raised by a dedicated davit/winch system. When underway, the dinghy can be either packed and stowed on the coachroof (leaving the foredeck clear for foresail operations) or tied down on the spacious foredeck, ready for immediate deployment.
The designers have maximised the interior volume to create a roomy and comfortable saloon and galley layout (together with 2 toilets), that features attractive solid wood trim and veneered surfaces throughout. This yacht is well equipped for extended cruising in remote areas on the Scottish West coast, with minimal shore power required. Incorporating a portable 3Kw generator, electrically powered cooking (microwave and twin electric hobs) and fixed panel heating, in addition to the diesel heater, is available 24/7 on this yacht if required. The traditional bottled gas supply to the cooker is electrically controlled and monitored in the galley, thus obviating manual control of valves, etc.
