Jan Mayen is a volcanic island of Norwegian dominion, located in the Greenland Sea of the Arctic Ocean about 1000 km west of mainland Norway and 550 km northeast of Island. Dominated by the volcano Beerenberg, this remote, mountainous stretch of land is partly covered by glaciers and has no native population.
The video shows the journey from Iceland beyond the Arctic Circle to Jan Mayen on board the specialist high latitude steel yacht Global Surveyor. It took four days of non-stop sailing to get across 500 nm and reach its shore.
